IWU Darmstadt

The Institut Wohnen und Umwelt (IWU), located in Darmstadt, is a non-profit research institute of the State of Hesse and the City of Darmstadt. Pursuing an interdisciplinary approach, the IWU aims to integrate research into topics in the fields of housing and urban development, energy efficiency and climate protection.  

The IWU undertakes both basic and applied research. In addition to public funding, the Institute receives third-party funding. It conducts projects on behalf of public and private institutions as well as various civil actors and groups from the municipal to European level. 

Currently the IWU employs a staff of more than 40, representing diverse scientific interests.
